April 09,2020 21:11

A doctor at the Gyumri Infectious Antituberculosis Hospital was confirmed to have the coronavirus. Her test result came back positive yesterday. The governor of Shirak, Tigran Petrosyan, confirmed this with reporters. “One of our doctors was confirmed to have the virus yesterday. She did not work in the tuberculosis unit, which is where the coronavirus patients and others in the high-risk group are being isolated. While she did not work there, it is likely that she came into contact with someone who had the virus and needed medical care. Now, their entire circle of contact has also been quarantined. This is a continuous process that will continue for a long time. It is important that everyone- doctors, police officers, private citizens- approaches this issue with a great sense of responsibility in order to minimize risks,” the governor said.

He said that there are 13 confirmed cases in the Shirak province and one coronavirus patient from the Ani community died. “We have 13 cases. Their entire circle of contact is being investigated by the police and other law enforcement bodies. It is very important for us to localize these sources in this stage. It is important for us to achieve our goal of minimizing these risks by taking these actions because, at the moment, the majority of our workforce is at home and not working,” Tigran Petrosyan said.

The governor did not say how many people are quarantined or in self-isolation because that number changes constantly. Some people are quarantined, others are in self-isolation. “It is important that the number of people who are nearing the end of their treatment is increasing. One person was released from the Infectious Hospital. We expect more people to be released in the coming days, which will also be a continuous process. This can also ensure that the number of patients brought to the hospital and the number of patients released will be equal so that we don’t run into any issues when it comes to treating patients,” Petrosyan said. He also said that the Infectious Hospital is nearly working at full capacity.

“There are some mechanisms at play here. Each room is mostly being used to house one patient. We are near full capacity. But since we are nearly at the two-week mark for both those in quarantine and those being treated, we expect that there won’t be any need to expand to other hospitals. Even if the need does arise, we are prepared for that. All of these scenarios have been discussed with the ministry and other leading agencies in the healthcare industry,” Tigran Petrosyan said.

He said that the coronavirus has been confirmed in two communities in the Shirak province- Ani and Gyumri.
